Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said President Asif Ali Zardari has not yet sought a report on the deteriorating law-and-order situation in the province, amid growing concerns over security and political tensions.
In an interview with Geo News, Mr. Kundi said he would prepare and submit a report, along with recommendations, as soon as the president requests one. He said the security situation in the province was not satisfactory and accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of failing to cooperate with the federal government on counterterrorism efforts.
Mr. Kundi also met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Peshawar, where the two agreed that constitutional measures should be considered to protect the province from terrorism.
According to a statement from the Governor’s House, Mr. Kundi said his office would play its constitutional role if the president and prime minister deemed the imposition of governor’s rule or an emergency necessary.
Meanwhile, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa inspector general of police briefed officials that police remained on high alert amid growing uncertainty in the province and that a contingency plan had been prepared to respond to any emergency.
