PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said the province would implement governor’s rule if President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif decide to impose it.
Speaking on Geo News’ Geo Pakistan program, Mr. Kundi criticized those who, he said, refuse to abide by Pakistan’s Constitution and laws while calling for dialogue with them. He accused such elements of undermining Pakistan’s interests when the country seeks to project a positive image internationally.
Mr. Kundi also dismissed the prospects of PTI’s planned long march reaching Islamabad, saying the protesters would not be able to move beyond Attock. He questioned the party’s claim of mobilizing a crowd of two million people, saying PTI lacked the numbers to do so.
He further described Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf as no longer a conventional political party, but rather a collection of what he called “four franchises.”
The governor accused the provincial government of allowing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s affairs to deteriorate, saying the chief minister lacked effective control over the province. He also alleged that provincial leaders were acting on the instructions of former PTI leader Murad Saeed, whom he described as a fugitive.
Mr. Kundi reiterated that if the president and prime minister make a decision to impose governor’s rule, the provincial administration would implement it.
