The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has urged citizens to exercise caution when using free and public Wi-Fi networks, warning that unsecured connections could expose personal information and online data to cybercriminals.
In a video message, the agency advised users to avoid online banking, financial transactions and online shopping over public Wi-Fi, particularly when the network’s security and authenticity cannot be verified.
The NCCIA cautioned that Wi-Fi networks should not be trusted solely because they bear the names of individuals, institutions, offices, cafés or airports. Cybercriminals may create fraudulent networks using names similar to those of reputable establishments to deceive users into connecting and potentially compromising their sensitive information.
