The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has ordered the suspension of local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while directing that elections be held in Punjab.
A hearing on local government elections in the two provinces was held under Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
The commission reviewed an order issued by the federal government on November 4, focusing on Clause 2, which stated that Article 140-A of the Constitution had been suspended under the order.
Following the review, the ECP decided to suspend local government elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On October 28, the commission had directed that local government elections be held in KP districts other than those affected by the emergency.
