UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has strongly condemned the Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, warning that the latest escalation in Yemen has pushed the regional conflict to a “dangerous juncture”.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Mr Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the Houthi military escalation inside Yemen, continued attacks on Saudi Arabia and recent developments along Yemen’s Red Sea coast were contributing to growing tensions in the region.
“Pakistan condemns, in the strongest terms, all Houthi attacks against the kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” he said.
Mr Ahmad said Pakistan would continue its diplomatic efforts at the highest levels to help defuse tensions and promote peace and stability in the region.
He stressed the need for sustained efforts to prevent further escalation and create conditions conducive to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
