ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Alliance has announced a 7% increase in freight rates, citing a sharp rise in diesel and petrol prices over the past week.
Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan said diesel prices had increased by Rs26.88 per litre over the past seven days, while petrol prices had risen by Rs20 per litre during the same period.
The transporters said the increase in operating costs had made a revision in freight charges necessary.
The higher transportation costs are expected to put further pressure on the prices of essential commodities, raising concerns about additional inflationary pressure on consumers.
The government raised the price of diesel by Rs3.47 per litre on Thursday, taking its new price to Rs424.92 per litre.
The latest increase in freight rates comes as businesses and consumers continue to face higher transportation and fuel costs.
