Pakistan’s military spokesman has said that the Makkah Defence Pact is open to new members, including Iran, provided they share a common vision for regional peace.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told a British broadcaster that the pact’s provisions do not prevent other countries from joining.
“We welcome countries that believe in a shared vision of regional peace,” he said, adding that Iran and any other country aligned with that vision could become a member.
Chaudhry said the decision to admit new members would rest with the political leadership of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan.
