Muslim candidates are contesting races across the United States in the midterm elections, facing political rivals in closely watched contests and competing against candidates from multiple parties.
In Michigan, Palestinian American Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is seeking reelection against four challengers. In California, Aisha Wahab is facing fellow Democrat Melissa Hernandez.
Republican James Hooper and candidates from three other parties are also challenging Tlaib in the general election.
The growing presence of Muslim candidates in American politics has brought added significance to these electoral contests.
