ISLAMABAD — Authorities in Islamabad and Rawalpindi declared a rain emergency after heavy downpours swept the twin cities, prompting the deployment of field teams and heavy machinery to vulnerable, low-lying areas.
The managing director of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) said all field officers had been mobilized and staff and heavy equipment were positioned in areas prone to water accumulation.
Despite the rainfall, water levels in Rawalpindi’s Nullah Lai remained within normal range, according to WASA. The water level stood at about five feet at Kattarian and two feet at the Gawalmandi Bridge, the agency said.
