PESHAWAR — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said he would not back down from his position in response to threats of imposing governor’s rule in the province, warning that any move against the public mandate would be unacceptable.

Addressing a meeting on law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mr. Afridi said the province’s residents, police and security forces had made significant sacrifices to restore peace. He said the province could achieve peace within 100 days if his proposed policies were implemented.

Mr. Afridi called for all relevant stakeholders to be brought together to formulate and implement a unified security policy, saying the province should not be allowed to become a casualty of political disputes.

He also called for changes to existing policy, arguing that the government needed a different approach to address the province’s security challenges.

On threats of governor’s rule, Mr. Afridi said he would stand by his position and rejected any action that, in his view, went against the wishes of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and their electoral mandate.
