DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan—Security forces killed three militants in an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, as authorities continue a campaign against militant groups in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Security sources said the operation was carried out on the basis of intelligence about the presence of militants in the area. Three members of what Pakistani authorities refer to as Fitna al-Khawarij were killed during the operation.

The action was conducted as part of the government’s broader Azm-e-Istehkam initiative, which officials say is aimed at disrupting militant networks and reducing their operational capabilities.

Security forces remain committed to eliminating militancy from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and are expected to continue operations against militant groups, the sources said.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for the operation and commended their efforts against militancy.
