ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Naeem Haider Panjutha has indicated that the party could consider postponing its planned September 27 protest march to Islamabad if the federal government agrees to three key demands.
Speaking to Dawn, Panjutha said the PTI wanted elections to be held within six to eight months, the release of Imran Khan and other political prisoners through legal process, and a judicial inquiry into the May 9 and November 26 incidents involving the party. He said the march could be postponed if the government provided assurances on all three issues.
However, PTI spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram denied that any such proposal was currently under discussion within the party. He said that even if an offer were made, only PTI founder Imran Khan could decide whether to postpone the march.
The conflicting statements have added uncertainty over the party’s final strategy for the September 27 protest. PTI leaders have continued discussions on preparations for the planned march and the political situation in the country.
