Pakistan Receives Second Qatari LNG Cargo This Month

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has received its second liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Qatar this month, with the LNG carrier Shandong Redwood berthing at the Pakistan GasPort Limited (PGPL) terminal at Port Qasim on Wednesday morning.

The shipment was secured under Pakistan’s long-term LNG supply agreement with Qatar at a price equivalent to 13.37% of the Brent crude oil price, according to officials.

The vessel, carrying approximately 128,000 tonnes of LNG, arrived after transiting the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Port Qasim Authority records confirm the vessel’s scheduled berthing at the PGPCL terminal on September 23.

Pakistan had engaged with Iranian officials to facilitate the safe passage of the LNG carrier through the Strait of Hormuz, officials said. The development comes as shipping through the waterway remains disrupted amid heightened regional tensions.

The latest delivery is expected to provide temporary relief to Pakistan’s power sector, which has been facing gas supply constraints and prolonged load-shedding in parts of the country.

The Strait of Hormuz remains critical to Pakistan’s LNG supplies, with any prolonged disruption to the route posing risks to energy availability and procurement costs.
